Our Prayer

We Benedictines often say that liturgy is our life.  Celebrating the Liturgy of the Hours and the Liturgy of the Eucharist together is central to our life of seeking God and is the essential core to living our monastic life together. When we come together at different times throughout the day, we represent the Church at prayer, with Christ present among us. We pray for the Church, for the world, and for those who request our prayers as Christ continues his work of redemption.

Prayer and the celebrations of liturgy throughout the day is our primary ministry.  Our life revolves around the times that we gather as a community for prayer, and we expend much energy and time in planning and preparing our liturgies.

Liturgy of the Hours

St. Benedict admonishes, “Nothing is to be preferred to the Work of God” (RB 43:3). Each day, our community gathers together to pray Morning, Noon and Evening Prayer. This communal prayer includes hymns, chanting and reciting the Psalms, proclaiming readings from the Old and New Testament, praying Intercessions and other prayers.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Our chaplain joins us twice a week to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Here we receive the Body of Christ so that we may grow in communion with him and with one another, and become the body of Christ for the world.
